"Good morning, ma." I greeted with all sincerity of heart, as I stretched my right hand to submit the text.  "Good morning, Miracle." She retorted. Aunty Hosanna preferred to call me Miracle to Smart which was the name my friends always call me. Maybe, because of the unisex nature of the name and my personality justified it. I had some feminine qualities - my shrill voice and my mesmerizing eyebrow. Unlike my friends who preferred Smart because it is a pet name and John had a puppy he named Smart. They decided to refer to me as Smart; more like John's puppy. "What are you holding? Was that the text I recommended?" She asked as I felt a pang of nervousness in my belly. Aunty Hosanna was a gorgeous lady, a fair-skinned tall woman with lush, dark hair; maybe she admired Alice Walker or Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie cause these intelligent women and a few others are the epitome of African beauty who take pride in their natural hair.  My heart sank into my bell...

Anaelechi Miracle Smart My Reputation Has Gone in Exchange  I couldn't place my sanity on any of the thoughts that flooded into my head. It ached as if I was carrying a ton of mud. My vision gradually went blurry, my tongue loosed its wetness, and I could feel the beats of Atilogwu music as it played in my head.  "Argh!" I exclaimed due to its excruciating pain. I beckoned for aid not even a shadow was available. I struggled to scream but at this point, my tongue seemed stagnant.  "What is happening?" I questioned my mind as I reclined to the bed with both hands supporting my head cause it was on the verge of explosion. The world became a spherical metallic object for a shotput game. I lifted it as those who watched were in shock. My imagination was dealing with me. No one offered a solution to me, but, that wasn't my problem. I was elated inside the elevator, my torso was gradually ascending into the sky. Perhaps, I was the Messiah to come but people disdai...

A NIGHT OF FOREVER Anaelechi Miracle Smart Smart Anaelechi (Facebook) The WhatsApp status of all my classmates was covered with my engagement pictures, and all social media they belonged to wasn't exempted. I felt like I was in heaven as I admired my pictures consecutively. Even the viral pictures of Moses Bliss' engagement weren't compared to mine. I swam the ocean of ecstasy, hallucinating about different famous locations where my wedding would be held regardless of John's financial instability.   That night was as though there was a standstill on earth. It was a night but sleep never ran past my eyes, even after countless struggles for a nap, yet, my eyes were agape. Since there was nothing to do. I invaded the profile of some wedding fashionistas to glance at so many gowns to wear on my big day.  "God, soon, I will become a wife." I beamed a smile on each reminisce as I gave a screen kiss to John's picture. It had been a year since I knew John who wo...

I stumbled upon an advertisement online on how one could earn dollars working as a freelancer. Anxiously, I created an account thinking that was a big catch, but frustration was written on my face as I received a lot of rejection emails. Would this help to treat my age  mother? I thought that not furthering to the tertiary institution would be the best remedy to alleviate myself from this bond of unemployment in the country. I tucked my mother into bed with a kiss on the forehead with a promise to better her tomorrow; opened my phone to an email.  "Good morning, Amina. I see you are a Nigerian and I have looked for Nigerian Landscape Photographers because of a project at hand to appreciate the beauty of Mother Earth. Have you worked for anyone before on this?"  He asked through his chat. Should I lie or tell the truth?  "This project is best by me. I live in Enugu and this makes it easy for a profound work because of its lush vegetation and rolling hills. It i...
